Problems solved by technology

However, there remains the question of how to effectively implement LWA
The first problem is how to deal with the U-plane (LTE packet data unit (PDU)) bearer division for LWA
The second question is how to identify the LTE PDU through the WLAN access point (Access Point, AP) module or WLAN WiFi module and how to make a correct operation

Embodiment Construction

[0025] Reference will now be made to some embodiments of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

[0026] LWA is a tight integration at the radio level that allows real-time channel and load-aware radio resource management between WLAN and LTE to provide significant capacity and QoE improvements. When LWA is enabled, S1-U is terminated at the eNB, where all IP packets are routed to the eNB and Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) aspects (i.e., Robust Header Compression, ROHC), encryption (ciphering)) as LTE PDU. The eNB can then schedule the LTE PDUs to enter the LWA-LTE link or the LWA-Wi-Fi link. In this invention, it will be revealed how LTE PDUs are routed through eNB-AP and AP-Wi-Fi modules. Therefore, an adaptation layer (adaptation layer) with (de)encapsulation ((de)encapsulation) mechanism is introduced in the eNB and Wi-Fi modules to provide the above new functions without significantly changing the behavior of the WLAN AP....

Abstract

Apparatus and methods are provided for LWA PDU routing. In one novel aspect, LTE PDU packets are routed through a WLAN AP to a UE by encapsulation of the data packets. An adaption layer encapsulates the whole packet as an Ethernet frame by appending the Ethernet MAC header to the payload. In other embodiments, the adaption layer encapsulates LTE PDU as a GRE packet, and configures VLAN for WLAN AP. In another novel aspect, the LTE PDU is identified by at least one of methods comprising the EtherType value, the source address, the GRE header, and the GTP header. In yet another novel aspect, the LTE PDU is forwarded by the MAC address, by the GRE tunnel configuration, or by the GTP tunnel configuration.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] The scope of the claims of this application claims priority to the following application: US Provisional Application No. 62 / 112,196, filed February 5, 2015, entitled "Method and apparatus of LWA PDU routing". The entire contents of the aforementioned US Provisional Application are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to wireless communication, and more particularly to LTE-WLAN aggregation (LTE-WLAN aggregation) PDU routing. Background technique [0004] Mobile data usage has grown at an exponential rate in recent years. Long Term Evolution (LTE) can provide high peak data rates, low latency, improved system capacity, and low operating costs due to its simplified network architecture. In the LTE system, an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (evolved universal terrestrial radio access network, E-UTRAN) includes a plurality of base stations, such as an...
