Embodiment Construction

[0019] discussed below Figure 1 to Figure 9 And the various examples used to describe the principles of the invention in this patent document are by way of illustration only and should not limit the scope of the invention in any way. Those skilled in the art understand that the principles of the invention may be implemented in any type of suitably arranged device or system.

[0020] The present disclosure provides a framework to provide a framework for distributed mobility management using the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) tunneling protocol by specifying service Gateway (SGW) to provide mobility support from one temporary area to another to support all eNBs in the new area. A new Packet Data Network (PDN) connection is established in the new temporary area with the new PGW when no sessions with the same Access Point Name (APN) with the old PGW are active. When there are many SGWs in each temporary area, only one SGW needs to be specified in the entire temporary area ...

Abstract

An apparatus is configured to perform a method for mobility management. The method includes establishing a first Packet Data Network (PDN) connection between a user equipment (UE) and a first Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) associated with a first group of Serving Gateways (SGW) within a first geographical area; establishing communication with a handover destination SGW associated with a second PGW, the second PGW associated with a second group of SGWs within a second geographical area; and upon a determination that the UE moves from the first geographical area to the second geographical area, establishing a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) Tunneling Protocol (GTP) tunnel connection between the first PGW and the handover destination SGW, and updating the first PDN connection to use the GTP tunnel connection between the first PGW and the handover destination SGW.

Description

[0001] Cross References and Priority Claims to Related Applications [0002] This application claims U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 14 / 581407, filed December 23, 2014, entitled "Distributed Mobility Management System and Method Using GPRS Tunneling Protocol," and filed December 27, 2013 Priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 921,290 for "Distributed Mobility Management with GPRS Tunneling Protocol," both of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to packet data network connectivity and, more particularly, to a system and method for distributed mobility management utilizing a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) tunneling protocol. Background technique [0004] Wireless devices are becoming increasingly diverse, not just in the billions of cell phones, but potentially in an even greater number of sensors, machines for machine-to-machine communication and all things pr...
