Abstract

The invention relates to passive arc protection for main breaker line side power conductors. In a switchgear cabinet, the line side power conductors upstream of the main breaker are surrounded with arc attenuating / extinguishing channels and protective conduit in a location prior to the conductor's attachment to the main breaker. Thus, passive arc attenuation can be had prior to the breakers, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) levels can be predicted and controlled, and the need for action by circuit breakers during an arcing event is substantially lessened.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to earlier applications CRC-0266 [US, filed 20 April 2012] 13 / 452,145 and CRC-0275 [WO, filed 17 July 2013] PCT / US13 / 50797. technical field [0002] The present invention generally relates to power distribution devices and conductors contained within a housing generally referred to herein as a cabinet, however such housing does not necessarily have a door designed to benefit from the present invention. The present invention more particularly relates to the passive prevention and control of the effects of accidental arc faults in electrical cabinets by using tunnel arc extinguishing systems for electrical enclosures on input power conductors. Background technique [0003] Undesired and / or uncontrolled arcing events (i.e., through gas discharges), also known as arc faults, in electrical cabinets are well known and include those caused by arc flashes and arc blasts (hereinafter for It is convenient to call it an arc blast) to cause potent...
