Abstract

The invention discloses a method for giving virtual gifts and triggering special effects in a chat room. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a gift giving request for giving the virtual gift by a giver; determining special effect functions included in a virtual gift template, wherein the special effect functions include one or more of functions selected from a group consisting of a continuous click special effect, a video regional broadcast in the chat room, a video regional broadcast in a popular chat room and opening of a virtual gift treasure box in the chat room; displaying the virtual gift treasure box in the chat room, such that a donee can obtain virtual gift elements in the virtual gift treasure box; and displaying the special effects according to the special effect functions included in the virtual gift template corresponding to the ID of the virtual gift. The invention further provides a corresponding system for giving the virtual gifts and triggering the special effects in the chat room. According to the invention, the virtual gifts are sent to other users and the special effects are displayed in the chat room; and thus, the interactivity and the entertainment of an internet live-broadcasting platform can be improved.
