[0256] Step 1: UE sends random access preamble

[0257] - The preamble and Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resources may be selected from the set of preamble and PRACH resources according to the configuration in SIB2 for the contention-based random access procedure.

[0258] - To support the contention-free random access procedure, the eNB can pre-allocate a dedicated preamble for the UE, and the UE uses the dedicated preamble to start the random access procedure.

[0259] Step 2: eNB detects preamble request and sends Random Access Response (RAR) with UL Grant for Msg3

[0260] - The timing advance command in the RAR can be used to indicate the timing advance related to the DL serving cell signal to be used by the UE for D2D signal transmission.

[0261] Step 3: After the detection of the RAR at the UE, the UE sends a third message (Msg3) which includes the reason for random access start, ie, the request for D2D contention-free resources and other information related ...

example 2

[0306] Step 1: The UE sends a random access preamble using the PRACH resources reserved for D2D contention-free requests.

[0307] - Examples of PRACH resources reserved for D2D contention-free requests include dedicated preamble for D2D, dedicated time / frequency PRACH resources for D2D)

[0308] - Alternatively, random access preamble or PRACH resources can be used to implicitly indicate specific control information among the set of potential D2D resources. For example, preamble A may be used to indicate a set of resource blocks for a given number of subframes suitable for transmitting VoIP packets, while preamble B indicates a different set of resource blocks and subframes for UEs requesting transmission of video packets. Different preambles can also be used to indicate the UE's priority with respect to accessing the transmission medium (eg emergency calls versus normal traffic).

[0309] - The configuration of PRACH resources reserved for D2D contention-free requests can b...

[0319] Step 1: The UE sends a random access preamble using the PRACH resources reserved for D2D contention-free requests.

[0320] - Examples of PRACH resources reserved for D2D contention-free requests include dedicated preamble for D2D, dedicated time / frequency PRACH resources for D2D)

[0321] - The random access preamble can be used to implicitly indicate specific control information among the set of potential D2D resources.

[0322] - It is assumed that competition among multiple D2D UEs may not occur, that is, dedicated D2D preamble or D2DPRACH r...

Abstract

A method includes configuring one or multiple pools of Device-to-Device (D2D) communication resources by an eNodeB (eNB). The method also includes signaling of the configured pool(s) of D2D communication resources by the eNB to a first User Equipment (UE) and a plurality of UEs using a common broadcast channel; and sending a request for one or multiple D2D communication resources to an eNB by the first UE configured to transmit D2D messages. The method also includes determining one or multiple resources for D2D communication by an eNB for the first UE. The method also includes communicating D2D resource allocation information to the first UE.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wireless communication systems. The present disclosure relates more particularly to protocols for device-to-device (D2D) communication. Background technique [0002] Typically, cellular communication networks are designed to establish wireless communication links between mobile devices and fixed communication infrastructure components (such as base stations or access points) that serve geographically wide or local areas. user. However, wireless networks can also be implemented using only device-to-device (D2D) communication links without fixed infrastructure components. Such networks are often referred to as "ad hoc" networks. A hybrid communication network may support devices connected to fixed infrastructure components and other D2D-enabled devices. [0003] D2D communication can be used to implement multiple services that complement the main communication network or provide new services based on the res...
