The method comprises the following steps: acquiring a point cloud and a close-range image of a to-be-detected object; allowing the point cloud to generate a cylinder reference surface and acquiring a cylinder regular grid point cloud; selecting an image control point on the close-range image, selecting a homonymy point of the image control point on the cylinder regular grid point cloud and acquiring the attitude angle and shooting central point of the close-range image; determining a gravity center point of the image control point on the close-range image and converting the coordinate system of the gravity center point; determining the corresponding scope of the close-range image on the cylinder regular grid point cloud; generating a plurality of local orthoimages of the to-be-detected object; and expanding the local orthoimages into an integral orthoimage of the to-be-detected object. The method provided by the invention can highly efficiently generate the orthoimage of a cylindrical or substantially cylindrical object and overcomes a series of problems like dual-porosity overlapping and joint gaps of orthoimages generated by cylindrical or cylindrical-like point clouds.
