The invention discloses an authentication system and method for providing an authentication service specific to an unmanned aerial vehicle and a ground station, and belongs to the technical field of authentication. The system comprises the unmanned aerial vehicle, the ground station and an authentication center, wherein the ground station sends an identity authentication request message including unmanned aerial vehicle and ground station certificates to the authentication center; the authentication center returns an identity authentication response message; and the ground station and the unmanned aerial vehicle resolve to obtain an authentication result, and establish a data link and negotiate a key if the identities of both parties are legal. The digital certificates of the unmanned aerial vehicle and the ground station are issued and managed through introduction of a third authentication mechanism, namely, the authentication center, and the identity legality of the current unmanned aerial vehicle and ground station can be judged through verification of the certificates of the unmanned aerial vehicle and the ground station which are currently correlated with each other and send authentication requests, so that an illegal unmanned aerial vehicle is prevented from accessing a ground station network system and that an illegal ground station is prevented from controlling the unmanned aerial vehicle. Meanwhile, illegal stealing of user communication data can be prevented, and the security of unmanned aerial vehicle communication is enhanced greatly.
