[0017] The detailed description set forth below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings is intended as a description of various configurations and is not intended to represent the only configurations in which the concepts described herein may be practiced. The detailed description contains specific details for the purpose of providing a thorough understanding of various concepts. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that these concepts may be practiced without these specific details. In some instances, well-known structures and components are shown in block diagram form in order to avoid obscuring the concepts.

[0018] In some aspects of the invention, a context-aware user equipment (UE), mobile device or handset for utilizing collected data or information to improve the overall user experience is described. Improvements in the accuracy of satellite positioning systems (GPS) and indoor positioning systems have enabled user equipment to draw some conc...

Abstract

A server based contextual awareness method of communicating in a wireless network includes detecting a signal strength of one or more user equipments (UEs) relative to other user equipment within a same vicinity. The method also includes detecting a pattern of the user equipment(s) and the other user equipment based on the detected signal strength of the user equipment(s) relative to the other user equipment. The method also includes deriving a social context based on the detected pattern. The method further includes initiating an action in response to the derived social context.

Description

technical field [0001] Aspects of the disclosure relate generally to wireless communication systems, and more specifically, to context awareness using relative location of mobile devices. Background technique [0002] Various systems and methods exist for tracking a user's location. Such tracking may be performed to support context-aware applications, provide location-based services, or for various other reasons. Tracking of a user is typically performed by tracking the location of a device or object uniquely associated with the user. For example, a variety of mobile devices carried by users today include technology that enables the location of such devices to be determined with varying degrees of precision. Such technologies may include, but are not limited to, Satellite Positioning System (SPS) (eg, Global Positioning System (GPS) technology), (Wireless Local Area Network) WLAN technology, cellular telephony technology, and Bluetooth technology. The information obtained...
