Abstract

The invention provides a method and a system for switching applications or programs with a set top box and a remote control and applied to the field of set top boxes. The system comprises the remote control, the set top box, a display and a mapping comparison table generating module, and a user can directly see implementation effects of each operation of the remote control. The method includes: the user presses a composite key when watching a program or using a certain application; the set top box extracts characteristics of the current program or application after receiving a key code; selecting a prompt option in a popup of the display to set up a corresponding relation between the current program / application and the key code or skip to the program / application corresponding to the key code. By adoption of the method and the system for switching the applications or the programs with the set top box and the remote control, the programs or applications set by the user can be directly found out from thousands of programs and applications by the aid of the remote control, and repeatedly skipping for finding certain favorite programs or applications is not needed.
