Embodiment

[0044] The following examples are exemplary and illustrative applications of the principles of the invention. It should be noted that the experimental data presented do not limit the scope of the embodiments. Rather, such data merely illustrate the preparation of embodiments of compositions according to the present invention and are used to demonstrate the above properties to illustrate the effectiveness of the compositions for treating media.

[0045] Unless otherwise indicated in the following examples and elsewhere in the specification and claims, all parts and percentages are by weight, all temperatures are in degrees Celsius, and pressures are at or near atmospheric.

[0046] (a) Preparation of compositions for treating media

[0047] Such as figure 1 As indicated, ten compositions were prepared at 6% solids in water according to the following procedure. Organosilane treated water dispersible organic acid salts are prepared by combining under high shear mixing conditio...

Abstract

Compositions useful for treating media are described herein. The composition comprises an organosilane-treated water-dispersible organic acid salt, a water-soluble organic acid salt, a chelating agent, and an optical brightener.

Description

Background technique [0001] Printing media is usually made from interlaced cellulose fibers of wood pulp. This use of wood pulp consumes a considerable amount of the world's trees. Global environmental pressures have forced the paper industry to use recycled fibers and non-wood pulp for its media. Media made from recycled fibers and synthetic fibers other than wood pulp have poor performance when used in digital printing applications such as inkjet printing. Contents of the invention [0002] Compositions for treating media for printing are described herein. The composition comprises an organosilane-treated organic acid salt, a chelating agent, an optical brightener (OBA). Treatment with the composition improves the performance of the media in inkjet printing applications. [0003] The term "inkjet printing" generally refers to digital printing operations in which a fluid is dispensed on a medium. Examples of fluids used in inkjet printing applications include inks, dye...
