Abstract

An embodiment of the invention discloses a data storage method and a storage server. The method includes detecting actual hard disc usage corresponding to the initial capacity level in configured hard disc capacity level; when the hard disc corresponding to the initial capacity level is determined to be excessive according to detected actual usage, querying a hard disc corresponding to a secondary high capacity level higher than the initial capacity level in the configured hard disc capacity level; when the hard disc corresponding to the secondary high capacity level is found out, determining migration proportion of virtual nodes carrying stored data according to the initial capacity level, the secondary high capacity level and the actual hard disc usage, and performing virtual node migration between hard discs corresponding to the configured hard disc capacity level according to the migration proportion. The hard disc capacity level is divided according to actual hard disc capacity. By the aid of the method, hard disc capacity isomerism in massive storage can be supported.
