Abstract

The invention discloses a method for automatically recognizing an abnormal velocity event in a surveillance video. The method comprises the steps that (1) frame images are read from the monitoring video, image processing is conducted, and therefore a needed image sequence is obtained; (2) a statistical average method and mixture Gaussians background modeling are adopted to establish a background model, and a background differencing method is used for detecting a foreground target set; (3) a cross matching detecting method and a Mean-shift algorithm are combined for tracking a moving target corresponding to each foreground target in the foreground target set so as to obtain the position information of each moving target; (4) the speed of each moving target is calculated, and when the speed of each moving target exceeds a preset threshold, an alarm is given out; otherwise, the step (1) is executed.
