[0024] Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to monitoring diabetes (eg progression / recovery), and more specifically to monitoring the effectiveness of prescribed therapy in a decentralized setting. Patients can visit a physician and undergo the first oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) using venous and capillary blood samples. The first OGTT can be used to diagnose the patient's diabetes status and to establish a baseline for comparison during subsequent testing and monitoring of diabetes. The patient or provider can then implement some type of treatment to address their diabetic condition until one or more target events are reached. Once the target event is reached, the patient may undergo an additional OGTT using capillary blood samples in a decentralized setting and following the same testing protocol as the first OGTT.
