Problems solved by technology

However, artificial limitations on yield due to poor pollination (caused by lack of wind or insects) or insufficient space for mature root or canopy growth, etc., limit the use of these controlled environments for testing yield differences

Embodiment Construction

[0254]It has now surprisingly been found that modulating expression in plants of a nucleic acid encoding a BET1-like polypeptide gives plants having enhanced yield-related traits relative to control plants. According to a first embodiment, the present invention provides a method for enhancing yield-related traits in plants relative to control plants, comprising modulating expression in a plant of a nucleic acid encoding a BET1-like polypeptide and optionally selecting plants with increased seed yield.

[0255] The present invention also provides heretofore unknown BET1-like encoding nucleic acids and BET1-like polypeptides.

[0256] According to one embodiment of the invention, there is thus provided an isolated nucleic acid molecule selected from:

[0257] (i) the nucleic acid shown in any one of SEQ ID NOs: 11 and 95;

[0258] (ii) the complementary sequence of the nucleic acid shown in any one of SEQ ID NOs: 11 and 95;

[0259] (iii) a nucleic acid encoding a polypeptide ...

Abstract

The present application is directed to plants with improved properties where the expression of calreticulin, BET1-like polypeptides, DUS1-like polypeptides, ES43-like polypeptides, H0N5-like polypeptides or GSA1 polypeptides are modified. The improved property can be enhanced yield.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and relates to methods for enhancing yield-related traits by modulating expression in plants of a nucleic acid encoding a BET1-like polypeptide. The present invention also relates to plants having modulated expression of a nucleic acid encoding a BET1-like polypeptide, which plants have enhanced yield-related traits relative to corresponding wild-type plants or other control plants. The invention also provides constructs that can be used to practice the methods of the invention. [0002] The present invention relates generally to the field of molecular biology and relates to methods for improving various plant growth characteristics by modulating the expression in plants of a nucleic acid encoding CRT (calreticulin). The present invention also relates to plants having regulated expression of a calreticulin-encoding nucleic acid, which plants have improved growth characteristics re...
