The embodiment of the invention discloses a method and a system for generating artistic fonts, wherein the method comprises the following steps: obtaining an input character; carrying out character-font taking processing on the obtained character so as to obtain the bitmap information of the character; withdrawing the bitmap information into at least two layers, wherein the at least two layers comprise any two layers of a font layer, a shadow layer and a border layer; respectively carrying out corresponding processing on the bitmap information of each layer according to the effect parameters of each layer set by users; and carrying out superposition on the processed bitmap information of each layer. The system disclosed by the invention can be used for implementing the method disclosed by the invention. By using the system and method disclosed by the invention, a user can respectively carry out font layer, shadow layer and border layer effect parameter setting on the input character according to the demands of the user, then, the system carries out corresponding processing on the character according to the effect parameters so as to convert the character into an effect required by the user; and according to the technical scheme of the invention, word stocks and special effects bound with an operating system are not required to be used, therefore, the system and method disclosed by the invention can be subjected to cross-platform applications.
