Embodiment Construction

[0075] The present invention relates to a portable inspection system for producing an image representation of a target object using a radiation source, comprising: a movable vehicle; a detector array physically attached to a single movable boom having a proximal end and a distal end end, wherein the proximal end is physically attached to a turntable located on a movable vehicle; and at least one radiation source, wherein the radiation source is fixedly attached to the distal end of the boom and is adjustable to a desired scan height. The image is produced by exposing the object to radiation by introducing the object of interest between the radiation source and the detector arrangement and then detecting the radiation. A boom fixedly attached to the carousel is rotatable and extendable from a first stowed configuration to a second deployed and operative configuration.

[0076] The system of the present invention is advantageous in that it provides: an extremely compact stowed c...

Abstract

The present invention is a self-contained mobile inspection system and method and, more specifically, improved methods and systems for detecting materials concealed within a wide variety of receptacles and / or cargo containers. In particular, the present invention is an improved method and system for inspecting receptacles and / or cargo containers using a single boom placed on a turntable with pivot points to allow for folding and unfolding of the boom, such that the inspection system is relatively compact in a stowed configuration and has a low center of gravity lending to greater stability.
