Embodiment Construction

[0036] Figure 1 shows a method according to an advantageous embodiment of the invention. In this beneficial embodiment, the method has at least the following steps:

[0037] - step 110 transmitting a control information entity comprising a control message from the first network node to the second network node,

[0038] - step 120 receiving said control information entity by said second network node,

[0039] - step 130 of transmitting, by said second network node to said first network node, a data information entity of a specific type as a response to said receipt of said control information entity,

[0040]- step 140 monitoring by said first network node for reception of a data information entity of a particular type, and if no data information entity of a particular type is received by said first network node within said predetermined time period,

[0041] - then step 150 retransmits said control information entity comprising control messages.

[0042] This particular typ...

Abstract

A cellular telecommunications network includes a method for messaging across a lossy interface. The method includes transmitting a control information entity having a control message (110, 130). The method also includes monitoring for reception of a data information entity of a certain type (120, 140). The method also includes, if a data information entity of a certain type is not received within a predetermined time period (140), retransmitting of the control information entity having a control message (150). In an embodiment, a capacity allocation message transmitted from a node B to an RNC is acknowledged with a data packet with empty payload or with an indication in the header indicating that the capacity allocation message was received.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to message transmission across a loss interface, in particular to message transmission across a loss interface in a cellular communication network. Background technique [0002] Even modern communication systems contain data links that may be lost under certain circumstances. For example, if the data buffer in the receiving network node becomes full, subsequent received information entities such as data frames or data packets fail due to the inability of the receiving network node to input any received data into the buffer. There may be losses. This situation may continue until the receiving node manages to process some of the previously received information entities and space in the receive buffer is freed. [0003] This may cause operational problems eg in communication over the IuB interface within a 3G cellular communication system. The IuB interface is the interface between the Radio Network Controller (RNC) and th...
