Embodiment Construction

[0025] Fig. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment for preventing bruxism according to the present invention. The device comprises a jaw-shaped carrier body 1 of thermoplastic, for example biocompatible synthetic resin, from which two metal antennae 2 protrude. The antenna here extends from the outer end of the carrier body 1 on either side, but is otherwise imperviously embedded in its material to prevent corrosion or other damaging influences thereon.

[0026] As shown schematically in Fig. 2, the antenna 2 forms an anchoring member for fixing the carrier body against the user's teeth on the buccal side. The carrier 1 is thus in a fixed position next to the user's teeth. Antenna 2 in this case is formed from a wire with a solid core of biocompatible material, in this example orthodontic steel, and can be cut to size relatively easily using a pair of pliers or other tools, and using similar tools Curved to the desired shape around the jaw member. As shown in FIG. 2 , this anchori...

Abstract

A device for preventing bruxism comprises a carrier (1) which is intended for receiving in a mouth of a user and which comprises at least a part of an electronic bio-feedback system. The bio-feedback system comprises at least one signal sensor (2) which is sensitive to electrical muscle signals and which is coupled to a control unit. The control unit is designed and adapted to generate a correcting stimulus via an electrode (2) when a muscle signal is detected above a predetermined threshold level. The bio-feedback system is herein provided with means for individually adjusting and storing the threshold level.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device for preventing bruxism comprising a carrier to be received in the user's mouth, the carrier comprising at least part of an electronic biofeedback system comprising at least one signal sensor for muscular The electrical signal is sensitive and connected to a control unit designed and adapted to generate corrective stimulation via the electrodes when an electromyographic signal exceeding a predetermined threshold level is detected. Background technique [0002] Bruxism is an involuntary or subconscious dysfunction that occurs during the day as well as at night and manifests itself as static or dynamic contact between the masticatory surface complexes of the mandible and mandible in which pronounced neuromuscular activity occurs . These contacts do not form part of normal functional physiology. Bruxism is also known as clenching and / or grinding of the teeth. [0003] It is suspected that in most cases bruxism a...
