This may improve energy efficiency in Ethernet communication. In various embodiments of the invention, link partners may be communicatively coupled to an Ethernet link, the latter of which may comprise a plurality of channels. One or more of the channels may be active and / or one or more channels may be silent or set to a lower power. For example, the silent channels may have a data rate of zero.
