Problems solved by technology

Children display a wide-ranging curiosity about the world around them and frequently become bored if they are not continually motivated with a variety of tasks, learning experiences, and intellectual and physical challenges.
Many young children, for example, become bored and restless with schoolwork that fails to sufficiently challenge their mental abilities.
Such boredom can lead to physical inactivity and lethargy, which may compound or reinforce the phenomenon.
Parents, guardians, and teachers have responded with a variety of methods and devices to engage the learning and intellectual faculties of young children, but these efforts frequently fail to deliver the anticipated results.
Even though these designs may be suitable for the specific individual purposes to which they address, they would not be suitable for the purposes of the subject invention as such devices are generally elaborate in design and construction, thereby being cumbersome for a small child to use and operate.
Furthermore, such devices typically activate the electronic or audio-visual interface only when the exercise device is operated at a predetermined level of intensity, which can be impediment to use and enjoyment by a small child.

Embodiment Construction

[0041] Referring to FIG. 1, there is depicted a block diagram of an exemplary education system, generally designated 200, in accordance with the principles of the subject invention. The education system 200 is characterized by an adjustable child's physical activity device 202 that is coupled to an A / V system 204. An adjustable child's physical activity device (ACPAD) controller 208 may be (and hence the dashed lines) coupled to the adjustable child's physical activity device 202. Additionally, the education system 206 is preferably, but not necessarily, coupled to external educational content / material sources 206.

[0042] The adjustable child's physical activity device 202 may be any type and / or style of exerciser or the like that is able to be used by a child and configured and / or adjustable for use by a child. The ACPAD controller 202, if provided, is operative to control the physical activity device 202 typically through or in response to input initiated by a user. The user may be...

Abstract

An education system, especially for children, includes an audio / visual (A / V) system and a physical activity or exercise device that is in communication with the A / V system. The A / V system is operative only when the physical activity or exercise device is being used, irrespective of any particular level of use thereof. The A / V system is operative to provide only educational content / material when used. The A / V system is in communication with a plurality of educational content / material sources. Various types of physical activity or exerciser devices may be used.

Description

[0001] The present U.S. non-provisional patent application hereby claims priority to and / or the benefit of earlier filed and co-pending U.S. provisional patent applications: (a) serial No. 60 / 306,170, filed Jul. 19, 2001, entitled "Audio-Visual Educational System Activated by Exercise Device Apparatus (sit and go)"; and (b) serial No. 60 / 312,466, filed Aug. 16, 2001, entitled "Audio-Visual Educational System Activated by Stationary Manual Treadmill".[0002] The subject invention is concerned with the field of audio-visual educational systems and exercise devices. More specifically, the subject invention is concerned with audio-visual educational systems that are actuated via a physical activity and / or exercise device in order to stimulate and develop the intellectual, emotional, and physical capabilities of children.DISCUSSION OF THE PRIOR ART[0003] One of the recurring tasks of raising and educating young children is to ensure that they have access to a sufficient quantity of intell...
