Problems solved by technology

Although higher data rates are generally not achievable due to line attenuation, data rates are especially limited on short loops due to the maximum bandwidth used by ADSL and VDSL modems and frequency selective noise due to crosstalk, which Crosstalk comes from other phone lines sharing the same cable, radio ingress, and various customer-premises noises that are generally considered impulse noise

Embodiment Construction

[0021] The following detailed description of the invention will refer to one or more embodiments of the invention, but is not limited to these embodiments. Rather, these detailed descriptions are for illustrative purposes only. Those skilled in the art will readily appreciate that the detailed description given herein with respect to the accompanying drawings is for explanatory purposes only and that the invention extends beyond these limited descriptions and exemplary embodiments.

[0022] The invention supports the use of multiple loops in DSL systems where the loops are bonded and short (although the invention is not limited to short loops). Bonding these rings and vectoring data transmission on these rings allows the creation and operation of multi-channel systems that typically achieve data rates greater than that of multiple single rings operating on a single DSL ring. sum data rate.

[0023] The term Subscriber Ring or "Loop" refers to the lines that connect individua...

Abstract

A Digital Subscriber Line system and method of sending Digital Subscriber Line signals through multiple communication channels are described. A plurality of drops, each comprising K wire loops, provides up to (2K-1) communication channels, and each loop comprises at least two wires. Each drop is coupled at one end to a controller and at the other end, opposite the controller, to a plurality of different customer premises equipments that are in different locations to provide at least one DSL communications channel to each respective customer premises equipment. The controller is coupled to the plurality of drops to provide control signals used to operate the plurality of drops as a vectored system. A vectoring unit is also coupled to the plurality of drops at the controller end of the drops, to receive the control signals and to vector transmissions across loops of different drops of the coupled plurality of drops.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to methods, systems and devices for controlling digital communication systems. More particularly, the present invention relates to DSL systems that use multiple loops in a coordinated manner to provide high speed communications. Background technique [0002] Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology offers potentially large bandwidths for digital communications over existing telephone subscriber lines (known as loop and / or copper infrastructure). Telephone subscriber lines can provide this bandwidth even though they were originally designed only for voice-band analog communications. Specifically, asymmetric DSL (ADSL) and very high-speed DSL (VDSL) can adapt to the characteristics of subscriber lines by using discrete multi-tone (DMT) line codes that allocate several bits to each tone (or subcarrier), the Individual tones can be tuned to the initialization of a modem (usually a transceiver acting as both a trans...
