Problems solved by technology

However, the MPEG encoder has a disadvantage in that it takes too much compression time because it includes the motion estimation and compensation section 205 and the inverse DCT section 204 for performing the decoding step
At the same time, another disadvantage is that errors accumulate due to the application of inter-frame codes to eliminate time repetitions in frames

Embodiment Construction

[0024] An apparatus and method for compressing image data according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the corresponding drawings. Although a number of specific features such as block type, reference value, update column location, block size, etc. are given by way of example, these are only presented to provide a better understanding of the invention. Meanwhile, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that the present invention can be practiced without specific exemplary features. In the following description of the embodiments of the present invention, detailed descriptions of structures and known functions contained herein will be omitted for the sake of brevity.

[0025] Regarding an embodiment of the present invention, a 'moving block' refers to a block in which an energy difference between a current block and a corresponding block in a previous frame is greater than a predetermined reference value. That is, a moving block...

Abstract

A device and method for compressing image data is disclosed. The device and method comprises a block dividing section for dividing each frame of the image data into a plurality of blocks; a block determining section for determining the types of divided blocks; and a compressing section for performing compression according to the types of divided blocks. The block types include motion blocks, static blocks and refresh blocks that avoid the accumulation of errors between frames.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to compression of image data. In particular, the present invention relates to methods and devices capable of efficiently compressing image data. Background technique [0002] Motion Joint Photographic Experts Group (M-JPEG) is an industry standard for moving image compression, based on the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) format, which is used to compress still images. M-JPEG is widely used in digital video editing and supports a variable compression factor, that is, it can freely establish a compression factor. In M-JPEG, each frame including moving images is compressed and reproduced in JPEG format. [0003] Because M-JPEG applies only spatial compression methods to compress image data, frames are easily accessible and digital video editing can be performed efficiently. M-JPEG hardware supporting real-time compression is already available on the market. Since M-JPEG compresses target image data regardless of t...
