Abstract

The invention discloses a guidewire and catheter assembly. The guidewire may include a solid core wire having a distal section having a first diameter and a proximal section having a second diameter, where the second diameter may be greater than the first diameter. The guidewire may include a coil wound around a distal section of a solid core wire. A flexural stiffness of the proximal section may be less than a flexural stiffness of the distal section. The length of the distal section of the guidewire may be shorter than the length of the catheter. The length of the proximal section of the guidewire may be longer than the length of the catheter.

Description

[0001] priority [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 63 / 127,024, filed on December 17, 2020, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] This application relates to the field of medical devices, and more particularly to guidewire and catheter assemblies. Background technique [0004] Catheters, such as central venous catheters, are often formed of materials with relatively low stiffness, which results in catheters that lack column strength. During insertion, particularly when the distal tip of the catheter is displaced past the skin and vessel puncture sites, the breaking strength is often beneficial. Breaking strength is also beneficial during further advancement of the catheter through the puncture site. In this case, rupture strength along portions of the catheter outside the vasculature is helpful, whereas rupture strength along the catheter within the vasculature may be detrimental to guidi...
