Problems solved by technology

[0011] However, additional problems arise due to the use of scanning devices (such as laser scanning devices) in electrophotographic printers to form a latent image on the photoconductive drum.
The scanning position on the photoconductive drum surface (and thus on the paper) can deviate from the designed position due to manufacturing errors of the scanning device

Embodiment Construction

[0051] FIG. 5 is a side sectional view showing the internal structure of the printer 10 . The printer 10 includes a housing 12 , a laser scanning device 14 , a photoconductive drum 16 , a developing device 18 , a transfer device 44 , a pulling device 20 and a fixing device 22 .

[0052] The housing 12 is divided into a lower part 12a, a middle part 12b and an upper part 12c. A controller 24 is housed in the lower portion 12a.

[0053] The middle portion 12 b accommodates the fixing device 22 , the photoconductive drum 16 , the developing device 18 , the transfer device 44 and the pulling device 20 . A paper inlet 26 and a paper outlet 28 are provided on opposite sides of the middle portion 12b. The paper path 68 extends from the entrance 26 through a pair of back tension rollers 47 , passes between the photoconductive drum 16 and the transfer device 44 , extends on the traction device 22 , passes through the fixing device 22 , and reaches the exit 28 .

Abstract

A printer has a puller for feeding a continuous form, an encoder driven synchronously with the puller, and a detection sensor for detecting the encoder to generate paper feed pulses at standard intervals. The printer also includes means for detecting the leading edge of paper to generate a paper top signal and for controlling paper feed based on a paper feed pulse generated after the paper top signal. In order to adjust the printing position on the paper when there is manufacturing error in the scanning position, the detection sensor position can be adjusted relative to the encoder to compensate for the error. Additionally, the paper top sensor position can be adjusted relative to the puller so that the relationship between paper feed pulse and paper top signal remains constant after adjustment.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the No. IIM970371 patent application. technical field [0002] This invention relates to printers using continuous forms. Background technique [0003] Printers using continuous forms are well known. A typical continuous form paper has a discrete sheet length defined by perforations between sheets and has feed holes spaced (typically 1 / 2") on either side of it. [0004] In the prior art, printers include a traction device which drives a pair of traction belts having projections for engaging the feed holes of the paper. In order to provide feedback for controlling the paper feed, the traction means typically includes an encoder or similar device driven synchronously with the traction belt to generate paper feed pulses at standard intervals. The standard interval is equivalent to the distance between the delivery holes (typically 1 / 2"). The printer also includes a paper top sensor, which is used to detect the leading edg...
