The method comprises the steps of displaying a shelf identification code on a display screen by the electronic shelf label, wherein the shelf identification code comprises a shelf identifier; and receiving and displaying a shelf commodity identifier sent by a cloud electronic label management system, wherein the shelf commodity identifier is generated by the cloud electronic label management system according to a commodity identifier and the shelf identifier, the shelf identifier is obtained by scanning the shelf identification code by a merchant terminal and is sent to the cloud electronic label management system by the merchant terminal, and the commodity identifier is obtained by scanning an identification code on a commodity by the merchant terminal and is sent to the cloud electronic label management system by the merchant terminal. The electronic shelf label provided by the invention can be used for amerchant to quickly put commodities on shelves, and also can be used for customers to purchase the commodities in a self-service mode.
