Abstract

The invention provides a method and device for determining paging areas. The method comprises the following steps: receiving information of more than two paging areas sent by a network side, wherein each paging area has a corresponding terminal state; selecting one paging area corresponding to the current terminal status of a terminal in the more than two paging areas; and reporting information ofthe selected paging area to the network side. The method for determining the paging areas provided by the invention solves the problems in the prior art that the paging load is increased since the network side cannot timely capture that the terminal has moved out of certain paging range information and the signaling load of X2 caused by paging triggering at an RAN (Radio Access Network) side, andachieves the effects of ensuring that network paging signaling is reduced and the paging area of the terminal is quickly paged by determining the paging area suitable for the current status of the terminal through the recognition of the terminal status.
