Embodiment Construction

[0029] Embodiments are described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof and which illustrate certain exemplary embodiments. Embodiments may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to those set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the concept of the embodiments to those skilled in the art. scope. Embodiments may be practiced as a method, system or device. Accordingly, an embodiment may take the form of a hardware implementation, an entirely software implementation or an implementation combining software and hardware aspects. Therefore, the ensuing detailed description should not be considered limiting.

Abstract

Methods and systems for assessing cardio-respiratory fitness (CRF) with the use of body motion data is disclosed. Specific measurements of body movement (for example, motion amplitude or velocity, or distance covered during repetitive displacement) are dependent on a user's fitness level. Embodiments prompt the user to execute a simple set of periodic movements which can be used to estimate cardiovascular function (e.g., VO2 max ). Body motion data, such as activity count, accelerometer signals, or cadence of motion, is captured and analyzed to estimate the user's fitness. The combination of body motion data with various physical measurements (e.g. body weight, height, BMI) permits the method to predict the user's VO2 max or similar physical fitness parameters.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to co-pending U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 079849, filed November 14, 2014, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference as if set forth in its entirety herein. elaborate. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to methods and devices for assessing cardiorespiratory fitness, and more particularly to methods and devices for indirect estimation of cardiorespiratory fitness. Background technique [0004] Assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is important in several fields, such as for the sports and fitness industry, for clinical diagnostic procedures, for prognostic and rehabilitation procedures, and for self-monitoring of asymptomatic individuals. Direct measurement of CRF requires maximal physiological effort, which is associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular events, and requires expensive equipment and trained personnel. Ind...
