Embodiment Construction
[0037] Systems and methods for exsanguination through a peripheral intravenous catheter are described herein. In some embodiments, the device includes a cannula or catheter, an introducer, a locking mechanism, and an actuator. The catheter includes proximal and distal ends and defines a lumen. The introducer includes a proximal end and a distal end and defines a lumen configured to receive at least a portion of the catheter. A locking mechanism is connected to the distal end of the introducer and is configured such that the introducer is connected to the surrounding intravenous line. The actuator is operatively connected to the catheter and is configured to move the catheter between a first configuration in which the catheter is substantially within the introducer and a second configuration in which the catheter is substantially in the introducer outside of the device. When in the second configuration, the catheter extends through the end of the peripheral intravenous line....
