Embodiment Construction

[0048] The present invention is derived from the following basic assumption: instead of monitoring footsteps at vehicle sites or in addition to monitoring footsteps at vehicle sites, the occupancy of passenger vehicles can be better determined at the seat level. Therefore, the present invention provides a powerful and accurate method for determining and monitoring effective seat occupancy at the vehicle or broader system level.

[0049] First look figure 1 According to an example of the present invention, a seat 10 is provided. The seat includes a rigid seat frame or support 12 and a conventional upholstery 14 which may include cushions, springs and / or straps on the support 12. A leather or textile seat cover is provided as the outer protective layer 16 on the seat 10.

[0050] The seat 10 includes a seat base 18 for supporting most of the weight of the occupant, and a seat back portion 20. The seat base 18 is supported on the floor 22 or other supporting structure by one or more...

Abstract

A seat (10) for a passenger vehicle (40) is disclosed. The seat (10) comprises a first sensor (26) for detecting the presence or absence of an occupant in the seat (10); and a second sensor (28) for validating the seat occupancy, wherein the seat (10) further comprises a transmitter for transmitting a signal indicative of valid occupancy of the seat. The first sensor (26) may be a non-contact, capacitive sensor and the second sensor (28) may comprise a near-field communication device for receiving a seat validation code. A seat validation system may be established on a passenger vehicle (40) such as a train, wherein a central controller (34) may report on seat occupancy status for the vehicle.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a passenger occupancy recognition system, in particular to a seat occupancy system suitable for passenger vehicles, ships or airplanes. Background technique [0002] In situations such as public transportation, the number of passengers on the vehicle needs to be identified. In many railway stations, it is an attempt to monitor and identify passengers on the train by controlling access to the platform. Ticket inspection machines and similar machines are used to allow passengers with valid tickets to enter the platform. [0003] However, the ticket inspection machine can only provide an indication of the number of passengers entering the platform, and cannot provide an accurate indication of the actual number of passengers boarding a particular train. In other words, after passing through the ticket checking machine, even though they only hold a valid ticket for a specific journey, passengers will usually see a series of optio...
