The passenger flow counting device comprises infrared transmitters, two infrared receivers, a microprocessor, a clock, a storage and a data output module, the two infrared receivers receive infrared rays transmitted by the infrared transmitters respectively to form two infrared rays, the infrared rays are blocked up when people or the objects pass the space among the transmitters and the receivers, the movement direction, the movement speed and the widths of the objects and the distance between the objects are calculated by judging the blocking time sequence of the infrared rays, counting is not performed when the widths of the objects are smaller than a preset width value, the count is 1 when the widths of the objects are larger than the preset width value and no distance is reserved between the objects, and the count is 2 when the widths of the objects are larger than the preset width value and the distance is reserved between the objects. Precision, sensitivity and response speed of an infrared counter can be effectively improved, and the passenger flow counting device is applicable to counting other non-transparent objects.
