Embodiment Construction

[0047] refer to Figure 1A , shows a drug delivery device 100 in the form of a pen injector. The drug delivery device 100 includes a dose setting mechanism 102 , a cartridge holder 104 and a removable cap 106 . The proximal end 105 of the cartridge holder 104 and the distal end 103 of the dose setting mechanism 102 are detachably secured together. Pen injectors may include reusable or disposable pen injectors. In the case of a syringe comprising a reusable device 100, the cartridge holder 104 and dose setting mechanism 102 are detachably coupled together. In the disposable device 100, they are permanently coupled together. In Figure 1, the dose setting mechanism 102 comprises a piston rod 109, eg a threaded piston rod, which rotates when injecting a dose.

[0048] To inject a previously set dose, a double ended needle assembly (not explicitly shown) is attached to the distal end 108 of the cartridge holder 104 . Preferably, the distal end 108 of the holder 104 includes thr...

Abstract

A dose setting mechanism (102) having a locking mechanism (200, 300, 400) for preventing dose selection of a drug in a drug delivery device (100) is disclosed. The dose setting mechanism (102) includes a locking mechanism (200, 300, 400) preventing movement of the dose setting mechanism (102). When the correct cartridge (120) is inserted into the drug delivery device (100), the locking mechanism (200, 300, 400) is unlocked allowing movement of the dose setting mechanism (102). In one arrangement, the locking mechanism (200, 300, 400) prevents rotation of the dose setting mechanism (102).

Description

technical field [0001] Particular embodiments of the invention relate to containers, especially containers containing medicaments. More particularly, the present invention relates generally to a mechanism for preventing dose selection for use with containers and container holders to prevent undesired cross-use of containers. As just one example, such medicament containers may include ampoules, cartridges, bottles, or bags, and may be used with medical delivery devices. Exemplary medical delivery devices include, but are not limited to, syringes, pen injectors, pumps, inhalers, or other similar injection or infusion devices that require at least one container containing at least one medicament. Background technique [0002] Medicament containers such as ampoules, cartridges or bottles are well known. Such containers are used in particular for medicaments which can be self-administered by the patient. For example, with regard to insulin, a patient with diabetes may require ...
