Embodiment Construction

[0027] figure 1 An embodiment of a conventional FMCW radar device 1 is depicted in . A thorough description of FMCW is in the first international conference on remote sensing technology held in Palmerston North, New Zealand from November 21 to 23, 2005, in the "Understanding Millimeter Wave FMCW Radars" presented by G. Brooker. given on pages 152-157. This FMCW radar 1 transmits a continuous wave signal that is frequency modulated (frequency changes with time) through a chirp transmitter 2 to generate chirp pulses. It is sent to the object 100 (eg included in the scene) to be inspected by the co-located (monostatic) antenna 3 and is also fed to the receiver via the coupler 4 . Depending on the characteristics of the object 100, the transmitted signal will be reflected by the object 100 and received by the receiver of the FMCW radar (ie the co-located antenna 3). The duplexer or circulator 5 is used to time multiplex the transmit signal to / from the co-located antenna 3 .

Abstract

The invention relates to a radar apparatus and a method. A radar apparatus for obtaining a higher range resolution than conventional radar apparatus without increasing the bandwidth comprises a transmitter antenna (11) that transmits a frequency modulated transmit signal having a transmit bandwidth and a receiver antenna (12) that receives a receive signal reflected from said scene in response to the transmission of said transmit signal. A mixer (13) mixes said receive signal with said transmit signal to obtain a mixed receive signal, a sampling unit (14) samples said mixed receive signal to obtain receive signal samples from a period of said receive signal, and a processor (15) processes said receive signal samples by defining a measurement matrix and determines the positions of one or more targets of the scene by applying compressive sensing using said measurement matrix and said receive signal samples.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a radar device and a corresponding radar method. Furthermore, the invention relates to a processing device and a method respectively used in such a radar device and a radar method. In addition, the present invention relates to a computer program for realizing the processing method and a computer-readable non-transitory medium storing such a computer program. Background technique [0002] The range resolution of frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW ) radar systems is improved (made finer) by increasing the bandwidth of the transmitted chirp signal (chirp). Traditionally, information about the target range is extracted using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the received sample data. Although FFT is computationally efficient, it provides poor distance resolution. In addition, it is difficult for this technique to achieve theoretical distance resolution. [0003] Some signal processing techniques have been used to achieve...
