The automatic speed change method for bicycles comprises the following steps: recording a first operation mode of the current operation state of the bicycle; measuring the torque force data of a pedal plate of the bicycle; retrieving the gravity sensing data of the bicycle; comparing the torque force data of the pedal plate and the gravity sensing data to the preset data of the bicycle for generating a second operation mode from the preset data; comparing the second operation mode to the first operation mode for judging whether the operation state of the bicycle is changed or not; and switching a speed changer of the bicycle to the speed change state corresponding to the second operation mode when the operation state of the bicycle is changed. The automatic speed change method and the device of the invention can regulate the operation mode of the bicycles according o the state of the bicycle and the users.
