The invention provides a climbing system used in building construction and a method for crossing over a barrier. The climbing system comprises a climbing frame and a handling frame, wherein the climbing frame and the handling frame are connected and fixed with one another through a plurality of tie rods in a detachable mode; and corresponding to each tie rod, the climbing frame and the handling frame are provided with a corresponding fixed element respectively, and the fixed elements are used for connecting and fixing one end of each tie rod; the fixed elements are arranged at interval on an extension direction of the climbing frame or the handling frame. The method comprises the following steps that: when the climbing frame comes across the barrier during lifting, the corresponding tie rod is detached; and when the climbing frame climbs to a height over the barrier, the corresponding tie rod is arranged back. The method can make the climbing system smoothly cross over the barrier without causing the disassembly of the climbing frame and the handing frame, thereby reducing the use of a tower crane or other equipment, reducing the cost in manpower and material resources, and simultaneously improving the security of construction operation.
