A method for identifying type of a digital video signal optical disk is suitable for being used in a digital optical disk recorder, the method comprises firstly reading data on the digital video signal optical disk, calculating a pendular amplitude value and a maximal amplitude value by using the readed optical data. Then, judging whether a difference value between the pendular amplitude value and the maximal amplitude value is larger than a predetermined difference value. When the difference value is larger than the predetermined difference value, the digital video signal optical disk is judged as a first type. When the difference value is less than the predetermined difference value, the digital video signal optical disk is judged a seond type.
