Abstract

The present invention relates to a Noise measurement method and a related device for noise measurement in a Digital Subscriber Line transmission system. Such a system comprises a transmitting Digital Subscriber Line modem and a receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem where the transmitting Digital Subscriber Line modem is coupled over a communication line to the receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem. The method of the present invention comprises the step the receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem receiving a symbol transmitted by the transmitting modem. Subsequently the receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem demaps the symbol received onto a constellation point. The receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem then performs a noise measurement based on the difference between the received symbol and the determined constellation point. Further, the receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem determines a frequency of the symbols incorrectly demapped and Subsequently the receiving Digital Subscriber Line modem corrects the noise measurement using the frequency of the symbols incorrectly demapped.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a noise measurement method for noise measurement in a digital subscriber line transmission system and an associated receiving digital subscriber line modem. Background technique [0002] Such methods and related equipment are known in the art, for example from "ADSL / VDSL Principles" by Dr. Dennis J. Rauschmayer, published by Macmillan Technical Books. ", Chapter 6, page 159, the application and in-depth research of asymmetric digital subscriber line and ultra-high-speed digital subscriber line. [0003] In such a digital subscriber line modem, the transmission of the data of the data stream takes place using discrete multiple tones and is based on quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), in which the bits of the data stream are modulated on a carrier signal comprising multiple tones. The modulation is performed by bit-mapping the bits of the multiple data streams to a single symbol on each of the multiple tones of the carrier si...
