Problems solved by technology

The disadvantage of this approach is that for each confusable character, a specific character with a specific assigned meaning needs to be used, so the user will have to be additionally informed of each such specific assigned meaning
This is especially a problem when the user is using the device in an unstable environment, such as in a moving car, or when the user is writing quickly

Embodiment Construction

[0079] figure 1 A screen view according to the prior art is illustrated. Box 98 shows several candidates for input between the hiragana "ko" and the hiragana "ko".

[0080] see figure 2 , a method for recognizing a display handwritten pattern according to the present invention will be described. First, in step 2, the user inputs a handwritten pattern. A user inputs a handwritten pattern in an input area on a pressure-sensitive screen. The user applies pressure to the screen using a gauge, thereby writing the pattern. While the user is moving the pen across the screen, the portion of the screen that has been pressured will be highlighted. Thus, the user can see the pattern he has written.

[0081] Next, in step 4, the handwritten pattern is detected. The step of detecting digitizes the input handwriting pattern. Then, in step 6, the detected handwriting pattern is recognized. The recognition is performed in a conventional manner, where the detected pattern is compared...

Abstract

A method for presentation of a recognition of a handwritten pattern comprises the steps of detecting a handwritten pattern that is entered by a user on an input area on a screen, and recognizing the detected handwritten pattern. The step of recognizing returns a best interpretation of the handwritten pattern and at least one alternative interpretation of the handwritten pattern. The method further comprises the steps of presenting the best interpretation in a presentation area on the screen, wherein the presentation area overlaps the input area, and presenting the at least one alternative interpretation in the presentation area. A device for recognition of a handwritten pattern comprises a screen for user interaction, which screen comprises an input area, which is sensitive to handwritting, and a presentation area, which overlaps the input area.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for displaying recognized handwriting patterns. The invention also relates to a device for recognizing handwritten patterns. The invention includes a screen for interacting with a user having a pair of handwriting sensitive input areas. [0002] The present invention also relates to a method and a device for displaying a pattern, in particular to a method and a device for displaying a pattern on a background. Background technique [0003] Today, portable data processing devices are becoming increasingly popular. These data processing devices are, for example, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), mobile phones and portable computers. In order to input data into these portable devices, a text input unit is required. [0004] In the past, the text input unit was realized by means of a keyboard. However, this places a limit on the minimum size of portable devices, so in order to be able to make the devices smaller, a d...
