Abstract

The invention relates to a gantry of a subway safety system for detecting one or more hidden weapons carried by a commuter passing therethrough. The gantry comprises: a radar screening device adapted to scan a commuter in real time to detect a hidden weapon and to generate an image signal related to the detected hidden weapon; an image processor connected to the radar screening device to receive a signal from the radar screening device to render an image based on the detected signal; and a communication module connected to the image processor to transmit the image to a computing unit for analysis via a communication network. The invention further provides a method.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to subway security systems, and more particularly to systems and methods for detecting one or more concealed weapons carried by commuters in real time. Background technique [0002] Conventional scanning systems for security purposes include devices such as metal detectors and X-ray units. Metal detectors are used to detect metal objects such as knives and pistols which cannot differentiate between innocuous items such as glass, belt buckles, keys and are useful for detection caused by plastic, ceramic pistols and more dangerous items such as plastic and liquid explosives The new threats are basically useless. Additionally, in view of the increased terrorist threat, there is a greater need for accurate and effective concealed weapon detection systems and methods at secure entry points, such as those located at transportation hubs such as subway stations, airports, train stations, etc. Needs are urgently needed.
