Abstract

A snap button has a female portion formed from a cap (10) and a socket (20) that are connected together with a piece of fabric (60) in between. The cap (10) is formed from a base body (11) having a circumferential flange (13) with interruptions (14) therein so that the flange (13) can be bent outward during assembly. The socket (20) is formed by a disc having a central aperture (21) and two peripheral rims (22, 23), as well as an annular insert (24) disposed within the socket (20). The cap (10) is connected to the socket (20) by pressing the socket (20) onto the cap (10) until the flange (13)bends around the annular insert (24) to anchor the cap (10) to the socket (20) with the fabric (60) trapped between. A male portion having a stud (32) is connected to the female portion by snapping the stud (32) into the socket (20) such that the stud (32) extends entirely through the socket (20) and into the cap (10).
