The method comprises the steps of arranging a power down protection data block, a pointer PA and a pointer PB in a RAM of a MCU of an electric energy meter, integrating data which needs power down protection together and adding a CRC verifying, and storing the data in the power down protection data block; arranging a circulated back-up storing area A and a circulated back-up storing area B in a nonvolatile memory unit of the electric energy meter, and arranging several back-up data area blocks used for storing data in the power down protection data block in both the circulated back-up storing area A and the circulated back-up storing area B; when the MCU the electric energy meter detects power down, if there are electric quantity data changes after timing write-in of last time, starting once a write operation of the data back-up as well, and entering a sleep mode after writing; when power is on again, awakening the MCU of the electric energy meter from the sleep mode, and firstly recovering the data from the nonvolatile memory unit to the power down protection data block. According to the electric energy meter power down protection data storing method, only two data blocks are written in when there is power down, requirements of energy storing towards a rectified electrolytic capacitor are low, and requirements are easily met.
