[0036] Certain embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for automated scheduling of the handling of vehicles from an inbound vehicle consist, through a vehicle yard, and into an outbound vehicle consist. Automatically generated schedules may be referred to as site plans or optimized plans that efficiently move vehicles into, through, and out of the vehicle site. The term "optimization" (and its derivatives) is intended to refer to a schedule that is more efficient as a result of each decision than a schedule that can be achieved by human intelligence alone. Thus, an optimized schedule may or may not include the most efficient schedule. As an example, an optimized schedule may be the most efficient schedule, or a schedule that is more efficient than one or more other schedules, but not necessarily all other schedules.
