The method comprises the following steps: receiving a playing request, wherein target object information is carried in the playing request; and the target object information contains a target image, where a target object is, or a target keyword, which the target object belongs to; determining a video segment, where the target object is, in a monitored video based on the target object information; and sending the video segment to a terminal, such that the terminal plays the video segment. According to the invention, the terminal can directly play the video segment, where the target object is, in the monitored video; video segments where other objects are, except the target object, in the monitored video are unnecessary to play; therefore, users can watch a video, where the target object is, without manually adjusting playing of the monitored video; the method is simple to operate; and furthermore, the video playing efficiency is increased.
