The method makes full use of the gas geochemical data of a target space to screen gas reservoir clustering validity parameters; the genetic type of the natural gas is determined according to the screened parameters; and based on maturity of gases in different matrix natural gas types and the changes of different types of hydrocarbon source rock vitrinite reflectance with the depth, the buried depth of hydrocarbon source rock generating gases in different types of gas reservoirs is finally established; and sources of gas reservoir of different matrix types are discriminated under high thermal evolution degree. The method can effectively guide the oil and gas exploration in sag belt.
