Problems solved by technology

This technique has limitations because the transmitted signal must be modified
Furthermore, the received signal can only be integrated for the duration of a predefined sequence, which is usually short; this means that the method will only work under good signal-to-noise ratio conditions

Embodiment Construction

[0055] Such as Figure 4 As shown in , the detection method according to the invention is based on the use of at least one receiver RR located outside the line of sight of the transmitter ER. In the case of the figure, the ground interposed between the transmitter and the receiver is a curved surface; in other embodiments, obstacles such as mountains may be interposed. The transmitter and receiver which are not in line of sight are linked together by a data transmission line LD which carries a signal SLD. The receiver RR uses this signal to reconstruct a replica of the signal received by direct propagation from the transmitter (if such propagation is possible). Thus, based on said reconstructed replica, and on the basis of the radio signal generated by the transmitter ER and reaching the receiver after being reflected by said target, the bistatic range of the target C is determined.

Abstract

A method for locating a target is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: a) receiving, by means of N >=1 receivers (RR1, RR2, RR3), opportunity radio signals (SRE) transmitted by M>=1 transmitters (ER) and reflected by said target (C), in which N*M>=3, said or at least one of said transmitters being located out of sight of said or at least one of said receivers; b) receiving, by means of a data transmission link (LD), one or a plurality of so-called reference signals, representative of the radio signals transmitted by said or each of said transmitters located out of sight of said or at least one of said receivers; and c) determining the position of said target from said radio signals and from said reference signal or signals. The invention also relates to application of such a method to the primary monitoring of air traffic, a multistatic radar system for implementing such a method, and an air traffic monitoring system comprising, as primary radar, such a multistatic radar system.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for detecting and locating objects, possibly especially aircraft, its use in the primary monitoring of air traffic, a multistatic radar system for carrying out this method, and a system for monitoring comprising this multistatic radar system A system of air traffic. [0002] The invention is particularly suitable for primary monitoring of air traffic by means of point-of-opportunity signals, such as television signals. Background technique [0003] The primary monitoring of air traffic (without the cooperation of aircraft targets) is conventionally carried out by means of "monostatic" radars, which transmit radio pulses and receive the reflections of said radio pulses by the targets (aircraft) to be detected, each The transmitter and receiver of a radar are co-located. There are also so-called "multistatic" systems comprising one or more transmitters of radio signals and multiple receivers that are not co-located wit...
