Abstract

The present invention provides methods for treating arterial hypertension in a patient. The method includes selecting a patient with arterial hypertension and creating a flow pathway between a first vascular location and a second vascular location. The first vascular location includes a source of arterial blood, and the second vascular location includes a source of venous blood. The method results in a reduction in diastolic blood pressure and a reduction in systolic blood pressure; the reduction in diastolic blood pressure is at least close to the reduction in systolic blood pressure. The present invention also provides systems and devices for creating flow paths.
