The device 10 comprises a stainless steel walled tank 110 with side walls 112 and a top wall 113, both with selective coatings for absorbing solar heat. Selective coatings include metallic elements such as titanium. The tank may be a pressure tank or a tank open to atmosphere. The appliance may have an automatic control system, as many solar heating systems do. A clear glass or plastic cover / lid 120 covers the tank 110 . Similar to a common water tank, the tank 110 has a cold water inlet 131 , a hot water outlet 132 , a release valve 133 , an anode protection rod 134 and a drain valve 135 . When sunlight shines on tank 110, selective coatings 112 and 113 absorb heat and transfer it to water 110 in the tank. Transparent cover 120 allows sunlight to pass through and reduces heat loss. Box 110 looks like a box commonly found in the market. But it is different in two ways....
