The method includes receiving a playing command indicating to start playing and transmitted from a media controller; determining playing mode corresponding to playing mode information, and playing a target file corresponding to target file information according to the determined playing mode, wherein the target file information and the playing mode information are carried in the playing command indicating to start playing. According to the technical scheme provided by an embodiment of the invention, since the playing mode information is carried in the playing command, a media player can be controlled to work in accordance with requirements of the media access controller. The media player has a plurality of playing modes so as to be flexibly controlled to play according to different application requirements.
