[0015] The exemplary methods and systems described herein overcome at least some of the disadvantages of known primary flight display systems by providing a horizontal status indicator (HSI) that utilizes less horizon of the primary flight display. The displayed HSIs described herein are angled so that the pointer appears as a three-dimensional (3D) object on a two-dimensional (2D) display. As a result of the angled perspective of the displayed HSI, only the portion of the displayed HSI that is immediately available to the flight crew is displayed. Furthermore, as a result of the displayed HSI's angled perspective, when the aircraft changes its heading, the heading indicating portion of the HSI appears to rotate, thereby preserving the useful portion of the HSI on the primary flight display.
