Embodiment Construction

[0021] At the outset, it should be understood that while the following provides an illustrative implementation of one or more embodiments, the disclosed systems and / or methods may be implemented using any number of techniques, whether currently known or have technology. The invention is in no way limited to the exemplary implementations, drawings, and techniques shown below, including the exemplary designs and implementations illustrated and described herein, but may be protected within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents. make changes to the full extent of the

[0022] To ensure correct operation in an optical network, various network components (eg, NEs, subsystems, devices, cabling, etc.) can be characterized in detail. The detailed characteristics of these network components can be considered during the network planning, installation and turn-up phases. In addition, network component features can be used in day-to-day operations, such as for calculatin...

Abstract

An apparatus comprising a path computation element (PCE) configured for at least partial impairment aware routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) and to communicate with a path computation client (PCC) based on a PCE protocol (PCEP) that supports path routing, wavelength assignment (WA), and impairment validation (IV). The PCEP comprises at least one operation selected from the group consisting of a new RWA path request operation and a path re-optimization request operation. Also disclosed is a network component comprising at least one processor configured to implement a method comprising establishing a PCEP session with a PCC, receiving path computation information comprising RWA information and constraints from the PCC, and establishing impairment aware RWA (IA-RWA) based on the path computation information and a private impairment information for a vendor's equipment.

Description

Background technique [0001] Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is a technology envisioned to increase bandwidth capabilities and enable two-way communication in optical networks. In a WDM network, multiple data signals can be simultaneously transmitted between network elements (NEs) using a single optical fiber. Specifically, different transmission wavelengths may be assigned to individual signals so that these signals do not interfere or collide with each other. The path a signal takes through a network is called a lightpath. One type of WDM network, the Wavelength Switched Optical Network (WSON), attempts to switch optical Signal. [0002] One of the challenges in implementing a WDM network is the determination of routing and wavelength assignments (RWAs) during path computation of the various signals being transmitted through the network at any given time. Unlike traditional circuit-switched networks and connection-directed packet-switched networks, which only have ...
