Embodiment Construction

[0023] The presently preferred embodiments of the described invention will be best understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which similar parts are designated by similar reference numerals throughout. It can be easily understood that the elements of the present invention as generally described and shown in the drawings herein can be arranged and designed in a variety of different configurations. Therefore, for as in Figure 1 to 7E The following more detailed description of the embodiment of the bidirectional cannula feature restraint mechanism shown in is not intended to limit the scope of the claimed invention, but merely to represent some of the presently preferred embodiments of the invention.

[0024] In general, this application relates to a two-way intubation feature restraint mechanism. In other words, the present application discusses a cannula feature restraint mechanism that allows the cannula with the feature to move from the unshielded position to the...

Abstract

A bi-directional cannula feature capture mechanism (30) is described herein. Generally, the capture mechanism comprises an inner housing (80), an outer housing (100), and a cannula (40). The inner housing comprises a proximal and a distal cannula feature mating component. The outer housing is adapted to slidably receive the inner housing in a proximal direction. Additionally, the cannula extends through the inner housing and the cannula's feature has a proximal engagement and a distal engagement. The proximal and distal engagements are respectively configured to irreversibly engage the proximal and distal cannula feature mating components when the cannula tip is moved into a shielded position.

Description

Technical field [0001] In general, the present disclosure relates to vascular access devices and related methods. More specifically, the present disclosure discusses a two-way intubation feature restraining mechanism that is adapted to restrain the intubation feature in a manner that locks the cannula in the shielding position. The two-way intubation feature restraint mechanism can be used for catheter assembly. Background technique [0002] In general, vascular access devices are used to communicate fluids with the patient's vasculature. For example, catheters are used to inject fluids (e.g., physiological saline solution, medication, and / or all parenteral nutrition) into the patient, draw fluids (e.g., blood) from the patient, and / or monitor various aspects of the patient's vasculature. Kind of parameters. [0003] Intravenous (IV) catheter assemblies belong to various types of vascular access devices. The over-the-needle peripheral IV catheter is a common IV catheter structu...
